Review: Seducing Cinderella

Seducing Cinderella
Seducing Cinderella by Gina L. Maxwell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As a person who really enjoys sports romances, I was very excited to read this. As someone who absolutely LOVED Lori Foster's MMA series, I was afraid I'd be disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised! Lucie was klutzy and sweet, but with a feisty side. Being raised by her brother, she had zero confidence in herself as a woman. Her self worth stemmed from her intellect and career. (at least she HAD an excuse...how many women have virtually no self esteem and no real reason for it? Ok, stepping off my soapbox now.).

As for Reid, he's a great guy with a big heart that, thanks to his father, doesn't think he's worthy or capable of anything but the next big fight. Lucie knows better. She sees the man deep down that's been trying to break free.

Under normal circumstances, is it realistic to think that an MMA fighter would give a girl her "Pretty Woman" moment? Most likely, not. I have enough everyday male friends who wouldn't do it. But secretly, for your best friend's little sister? One you consider (at least initially) your little sister? Rules usually get thrown out. Especially in the face of tears.

I really enjoyed this story. I found it to be sweet and poignant. I can't wait to see what book two of this series is like. Will it be about Lucie's brother? Will they bring another fighter in for her lawyer best friend? Hmmmm...[b:Seducing Cinderella|15762657|Seducing Cinderella (Fighting for Love, #1)|Gina L. Review: Room For Two: An Erotic BDSM Quickie

Room For Two: An Erotic BDSM Quickie
Room For Two: An Erotic BDSM Quickie by Morticia Knight

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I bought this book because I'd read an excerpt online that intrigued me. I wish I hadn't wasted my time. This short read did not capture my imagination at all. First, the girl in the story seemed wishy washy. Second, even the sex scenes didn't fully captivate. Third, and this is a bit of a spoiler...how does one go from planning to end their liason to ménage to committed relationship? Like I said, I wish I hadn't wasted my time or my money.[b:Room For Two: An Erotic BDSM Quickie|13644886|Room For Two An Erotic BDSM Quickie|Morticia Knight|http://www.goodreads.com/assets/nocover/60x80.png|19261443]

Review: Heart Song

Heart Song
Heart Song by Jambrea Jo Jones

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I should have known that this story would be a tear jerker when the story began with a funeral. Rafe, a young police officer, had been in love with Charlie, an older business man who passed away. Charlie, though he cared for Rafe, had been emotionally unavailable, causing Rafe to walk away for the last time. Unfortunately, before Rafe could truly find closure, Charlie dies leaving Rafe with more questions than answers.

At the funeral, a young man catches Rafe's eye; he's kicking himself for finding himself attracted to someone at his former lover's funeral. Then he learns that Charlie had a son, Stewart, the man he'd been attracted to, and that Charlie left a note with Stewart for him.

This is a story of healing, closure and second chances. It will touch your heart and make you cry, but in that bittersweet way that often happens in life. I'm glad I Took the time to read this one.

Review: Going For It

Going For It
Going For It by Liz Matis

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The story of Jake and Hannah, overall, was very sweet. Jake, the professional football player, had a one week relationship with Hannah, the Victoria's Secret model a while back. Because of lack of communication and understanding it didn't work out.

Sometime in the future, Jake and Hannah's best friends get married. Sometime on the wedding day, the Chemistry they'd been fighting came roaring back, landing them in bed together. This is where the story starts.

On paper, Jake and Hannah seem to be practically perfect and have it all. This book manages to humanize them and allows us to see beyond the perfect masks to the hidden scars and insecurities everyone has along with their will to battle through.

What disappointed me was that there was a wonderful opportunity to flesh out these characters and help us get a deeper, stronger feel for the impacts of some of their life incidents, ( Hannah's father's abandonment, her health & weight concerns, more depth around her mommy issues...and Jake's dad's macho mentality or what happened to his relationship with his brother once he came out). I think some of these things could have added a richness and depth to the book.

It's a fun read if you're looking for an erotic sports romance that only goes skin deep. I gave this book three stars for all the potential that was never realized.

Review: Three to Ride

Three to Ride
Three to Ride by Sophie Oak

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

[b:Three to Ride|9550642|Three to Ride (Nights in Bliss, Colorado, #1)|Sophie Oak|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1287706543s/9550642.jpg|14437118]
The first book of Sophie Oak's "Nights In Bliss" series takes place in the small town of Bliss, Colorado. Founded by nudists and hippies and full of misfits, Bliss is a very progressive town and they encourage everyone to be as wacky as they want.

In this story we meet twins Max and Rye Harper. Max and Rye have been two halves of a whole their entire lives until a broken engagement leaves them hurt and deciding not to share anymore., Max is the cranky, temperamental bear of the town who breaks difficult horses. His twin, Rye, is the charmer of a sheriff.

While Rye is away on business, the beautiful Rachel hits town and Max finds himself falling head over heels for the first time ever. Only one problem...even the resident alien conspiracy theorist can she she's hiding something. As the three fight their attraction and the twins try to convince Rachel to stay, fun and hi jinx ensues.

This book is full of everything I love. Strong, beautiful women and sexy, dominant men. Lots of laughter and tenderness and men who think strength in women is an integral part of a working relationship. This book was such a fun and easy read! Sophie Oak knows how to create characters and friendships that touch your heart, get you invested in their happiness and have you looking forward to seeing them again in the next book.

Favorite quote from the book:
"Seriously?" Jen's eyes drifted between Rachel and the brothers. "What kind of perfume are you wearing? Esau de Ménage? Where do I get it?"

Introduction To Me

After years of working...and nothing but working, I've decided it's time to chase the things I love.  Life is too short, and people need balance.  Reading is one of my many passions so I've decided to pursue it!  Maybe it's making up for lost time, or maybe it's that Kindle makes it so easy to buy books and keeps the clutter away, but I've found myself reading with a voracious appetite.  So I did what any woman who's been letting life pass her would do.  I bought them!

I thought about it.  I have a ton of friends who love to read, so why not share what I've discovered with them?  Who knows, maybe it will help sell more books for my favorite authors...which means they will keep writing.  Altruistic?  Not really.  It means I get to read more of their stuff!

Anyway, a little warning, my friends...these days my preferences lean towards the spicy!  I'm really enjoying erotic romances...of all kind of variety.  So if you can't handle hearing about how hot M/M action is, or how sexy BDSM can be when written correctly, or even how there are times I think the Mormons are on to something because there's something really exciting about Menage (my personal preferences are M/F/M)...then this may not be the place for you.

Don't get me wrong, I'll probably still talk about awesome authors like Nora Roberts, Julie Garwood, Gena Showalter, Lyndsay Sands and Kresley Cole.  But, more than likely, they'll be in the minority.
