Review: Going For It

Going For It
Going For It by Liz Matis

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The story of Jake and Hannah, overall, was very sweet. Jake, the professional football player, had a one week relationship with Hannah, the Victoria's Secret model a while back. Because of lack of communication and understanding it didn't work out.

Sometime in the future, Jake and Hannah's best friends get married. Sometime on the wedding day, the Chemistry they'd been fighting came roaring back, landing them in bed together. This is where the story starts.

On paper, Jake and Hannah seem to be practically perfect and have it all. This book manages to humanize them and allows us to see beyond the perfect masks to the hidden scars and insecurities everyone has along with their will to battle through.

What disappointed me was that there was a wonderful opportunity to flesh out these characters and help us get a deeper, stronger feel for the impacts of some of their life incidents, ( Hannah's father's abandonment, her health & weight concerns, more depth around her mommy issues...and Jake's dad's macho mentality or what happened to his relationship with his brother once he came out). I think some of these things could have added a richness and depth to the book.

It's a fun read if you're looking for an erotic sports romance that only goes skin deep. I gave this book three stars for all the potential that was never realized.
